WISUTEC traces its origins back to Wismut, one of the largest uranium producers from 1946 to 1990, which since the reunification of Germany has been carrying out one of the biggest mining and environmental remediation projects in the world as a state-owned business enterprise.

The Wismut project has set international standards for the closing and remediation of mining areas, especially those with radioactive contamination.

In 2002, WISUTEC Wismut Umwelttechnik GmbH was founded as a subsidiary of Wismut GmbH for the purpose of marketing the expertise acquired during Wismut's operations in a flexible and customer-oriented manner at an international scale.

In 2010, all shares in WISUTEC were purchased by G.E.O.S. Ingenieurgesellschaft mbH, an engineering company based in Freiberg/Saxony. Since then the company has been operating under the name WISUTEC Umwelttechnik (environmental engineering) GmbH.

WISUTEC has specialised in providing consulting and engineering services in the areas of mine closure, environmental remediation, water treatment and treatment and processing of mining wastes, as well as geoinformatics.

Our background in uranium mining also forms the basis for WISUTEC’s particular expertise in specialist fields such as radiation protection, handling of radioactive substances, removal of uranium from drinking water and data management.

Since its formation, WISUTEC has been active internationally. In addition to mining and extractive companies, governments, and public authorities, our customers also include major international organisations.

From 2005 to 2012, WISUTEC acquired an interest in MonTec GmbH in Duisburg (Germany), a company that specialises in consulting services for the mining industry at home and abroad. This allowed us to expand our presence in Germany and our international reach.
